M(II)Al4 Type Layered Double Hydroxides—Preparation Using Mechanochemical Route, Structural Characterization and Catalytic Application

The synthesis of the copper-poor and aluminum-rich layered double hydroxides (LDHs) CuAl4 type was optimized in detail this work, by applying an intense mechanochemical treatment to activate gibbsite starting reagent. phase-pure forms these LDHs were prepared for first time; using copper nitrate perchlorate salts during syntheses turned out be key avoiding formation hydroxide sideproducts. Based on use parameters, preparation triple multiple also attempted Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II) even Mg(II) ions. These studies let us identify relative positions incorporating cations well-known selectivity series as Ni2+ >> Cu2+ Zn2+ > Co2+ Mg2+. solids formed characterized powder X-ray diffractometry, UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared thermogravimetric analysis scanning electron microscopy. catalytic potential samples investigated carbon monoxide oxidation reactions at atmospheric pressure, supported situ spectroscopy probe. All proved active combination nickel cobalt incorporation (which resulted a NiCoAl8 hydroxide) brought outstanding benefits regarding low-temperature increased conversion values.
